Ah, but then we get red socialist unicorns instead of nasty blue unicorns.

I think he's going to do it. I think it's a bad idea because it looks like they're just trying to get into government, and not all that many people want a general election.
Then again, practically nobody in his party wants Labour to still be pushing for Brexit, but that hasn’t stopped him.

I think he's got party support for this general election stuff. It's public support I don't think he has.

My impression from vox pops is that lots of the public think they've chosen their politicians and now it's up to them to sort everything out.

I see the election thing as the party indulging him to an extent, but they'll lose patience quickly if he doesn't drop it quickly once he's worked out he's not getting one (i.e. if the vote of confidence fails).

Yebbut the membership.

A GE would just further alienate the electorate and make MPs even more reviled than they are now.

I thought you should never interrupt your enemy when making a mistake? Calling a GE is just that. This futile gesture politics sounds like what the far left used to call centrism; taking revolutionary fervour into the parliamentary process to disrupt the bourgeois parties or some such.

'Dont interrupt your enemy until they're so far into implementing what you've always wanted that you cant accidentally stop them'

If you don't want a general election you must hate the poor.

He didn't even say he didn't want one. He said that the public didn't. All I can see is a bunch of Jez fans talking about it a lot, as if it's a policy.

Here's Grace's general election policy.
Raising top marginal tax rates is the best moral and economic course of action for the UK, but any socialist government that attempted to do so would be punished severely by “the markets”. Without constraints on capital mobility, investors will continue to exercise a veto power over domestic states’ fiscal policy, and tax competition will only get worse.

The technical infrastructure for the implementation of controls is there – most of it could be performed electronically through existing software. A Conservative government – the party of British finance – would never use it. A Labour government should; and that means making the ability to deploy capital controls in day-to-day monetary policy a central pillar of any Brexit deal.
That'll work. I mean, people wouldn't move a load of money out before the general election or anything like that.

Corbyn straight in with his reminder that he can lose votes too.

I haven’t heard a conversation about the practicalities of national capital controls since the 80s and the problems seemed mind boggling pre virtual world. Grace’s fans are probably into Bitcoins to stick it to the man so they can work out.

Not to diss Attlee but Defence was 50% of GDP when he started. It's 2% now. Where's Jez going to get the rest of the money from?

This sort of stuff is a free bet. It's not happening, and whatever does happen "doesn't go far enough".

Grace said it's easy enough to control capital, with some tweaks to "the existing software". What software is this? Whose software?
