A bit OT, but that Harry Potter thing is interesting. A friend of mine shared an article about "how to cancel JK Rowling without cancelling Harry Potter", and it was all about buying 2nd hand, not going to the studio tour, reading trans-authored fanfiction and the like. And it made me enormously uncomfortable. Not because I agree with JKR - I think she's well meaning but understandably blinkered because of events in her life (as opposed to, say, Linehan - who seems to have gone quite mad). But pretending she doesn't exist while still enjoying the things she created is simplifying the world too much. You're going to meet people you don't agree with - sometimes that will be small things. Sometimes big issues. And people with platforms do have a responsibility, and have to accept the consequences for their stances on emotive issues. But erasing them from reality will make people more polarised, more likely to not listen when others have genuine concerns if they don't see that point of view, and most likely less able to cope with differing views on all topics.

People are complex things and the world is full of grey areas.

I'd like to argue on there that in 2015 the Lib Dems were defending Yardley, in 2019 she was re-selected overwhelmingly and subsequently won at the GE with a five-figure majority but there's not really much point. Life's too short to enter into debate with people who will tell you black's white because black isn't true socialism.

Seriously, I get the whole extended childhood thing. I'm 43 and I Larp, play Warhammer, watch anime films, and read comics. But seriously, put some fucking adults back in charge.
There’s 70 year old hippies living in yurts practising magic with dead crows who now concede its better if the suits run things.

Here we go again. People really don't like her, do they?

She's a magnet for all the arseholes on politics.

I've witnessed Jess's rapport with her constituents at close quarters, out knocking doors with her several times.

It really is quite remarkable the way that she is able immediately to connect with so many people, often putting an arm around a shoulder (but obviously not in the time of the plague). And the people of Yardley really do like her enormously, seeing her very much as "one of us".

And doesn't want to be a perpetual 'says it like it is' backbench maverick but step up to govern. Her vote dropped 2.29% in GE2109 but that's a minor miracle for Labour in the Midlands under Corbyn. The party has some catching up to do with Keir's ratings which is where figures like Jess Phillips come in to restore confidence and connect with voters. Which some of Starmer's dull but able shadow cabinet aren't able or need to.
