My only concern is that such measures teach unscupulous posters that if a he feels wants to close down discussion on any particular issue, all he has to do is become abusive and the whole forum gets closed.

It seems to be just the frustrations of the last few months, with Brexit and the Labour leadership change and seemingly impending split in the party spilling over. It is understandable, we seem to be faced with at least another 10 years of Tory rule and Brexit has poisoned the well, encouraging nasty right wing elements.

We cant mount an effective opposition if we waste energy arguing, for everyones sake, lets try to stay calm
