Meanwhile, Mr Fenton appears to have gone full Starmer. Never go full Starmer, Tim.
Fenton's piece has predictably attracted the attention of Dave Spart in the comments.
Here's his comment in all it's glory
Wrong, Tim.

Badly wrong.

Starmer won't improve. He'll get worse...slowly. Just as Bliar-Brown did. And, just as those war criminals did, all he has to do is wait for the whole rotten charade to collapse. As it will. There's nothing "new" in that strategy and it will be done with the muted approval of the political establishment via their media. As it was with Bliar-Brown. So if you think Starmer would make necessary radical changes...you're living in cloud cuckoo land.

Oh sure, there'd be a few cosmetic gestures here and there, none of which would change the decaying orbit of this country. Though of course they'll be bullshitted as doing just that. Britain would remain a craven client racist state at the beck and call of the USA, still warmongering, still looting national assets.

No, Starmer is a morally corrupt fraud.

You'll see.
Anhyhow I'd rather someone go full Starmer than full Corbyn.

I saw a great piece this morning that perfectly addressed Starmer's holding back on lawbreaking at last PMQs.
Rather than sparking a Part Vs Party ruck that would dominate proceedings, he left Johnson lying in his own shat bed.

Off into self isolation apparently, as a member of his household has symptoms.

*Cue massive sigh of relief in Downing Street that he won't be at PMQs*
This might test Patel's idea that you can't bully people over zoom.

He could of course turn up in the Commons claiming that he just needed to test his eyesight.

Assuming Rayner takes over, this will be a great opportunity for Johnson to both fuck up AND exhibit some sexism.

Starmer has done it. Within 6 months of becoming leader, he's put Labour back level with the Tories and over 40%*, according to a pollster usually known for not being optimistic re: Labour. And in a scenario where the incumbents usually enjoy a "we're all in this together" rally of support.

*well, at 40% anyway

He could be 100% ahead, and PM, and Labour could be passing legislation that makes everyone's lives better, but that still won't be enough for some because if it was, they'd have to accept they've wasted years - sometimes a lifetime - on a hardcore ideological dead end that ordinary people don't actually want and never have that's really more about their sense of self-importance than much else.
