Sir Vince Cable has lashed out at hardline Brexit “martyrs” who view economic pain as a price worth paying to break away from Brussels.

Cable, 74, added that the “self-declared martyrs” appeared to be “predominantly elderly”.

“The martyrdom of the old comes cheap, since few have jobs to lose,” he said. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... are_btn_tw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Liberal Democrat leader accused them of “masochism” and claimed older Brexit voters with views “coloured by nostalgia from an imperial past” had imposed their will on a younger generation more comfortable with the European Union.
That's harsh some elderly Bexiters are coloured by Venezuela's present

The Mash's take
VINCE Cable has unveiled plans to appeal to younger voters by saying he is going to vote for Jeremy Corbyn too.

Cable, who became Lib Dem leader after the only challenger was former Wimbledon and Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear, is hoping the approach will entice a new generation to the tiny party.

At a party event in Dorset, Cable said: “I think Corbyn is ‘the bomb’. Like Donatello from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Jet Set Willy.”

He added: “I know it’s pretty uncool for people over 50 to say they vote Lib Dem so getting 16-25 years to vote for us must be totally red hot.

“Which I assume is what young people say about things that are really ‘uncool’.”

Cable added that Theresa May was totally ‘whack’ before doing the devil’s horns sign and attempting to skateboard off the stage.

One onlooker said: “He fell off and really fucked his knee.” http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/ ... 0731133094" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He is right and it's about time people called brexiteers who think like that out for their nationalist egotism.

He's also throwing the gauntlet down to Corbyn; are you going to support the bridge building young Labour voters on Brexit or the Tories?

Knowing Corbyn he'll probably fumble it and come out smelling of roses.

According to Darren Grimes of Brexit Central Cable is being ageist against old people.
Vince Cable has penned a frankly bizarre opinion piece for the Mail on Sunday, filled with analogies about religious Brexit martyrs, in a piece suffused with sanctimony that clearly sought to stir up generational tensions. After reading it, I quickly realised that to Cable’s sect of ultra-Remain polite society, hating old people has become the only socially acceptable prejudice. This is despite politically-correct culture creating my generation of hypersensitive, entitled and narcissistic youths who actively campaign for so-called ‘safe spaces’ and advocate a clampdown on free speech on university campuses, with students and academics quick to attach an -ism or a -phobia to anything they disagree with or deem to be transphobic, homophobic, sexist, disablist, racist, classist… I could go on. There is one -ism however that they clearly will accept: ageism. They barely conceal their contempt for the 17.4 million Leave voters – many of whom are working class – who are readily dismissed as being ‘ignorant and uneducated racists’ and have apparently ‘imposed’ a world view of an imperial past onto my generation.

Yeah, but what we REALLY need to know is, is this despite politically-correct culture creating my generation of hypersensitive, entitled and narcissistic youths who actively campaign for so-called ‘safe spaces’ and advocate a clampdown on free speech on university campuses, with students and academics quick to attach an -ism or a -phobia to anything they disagree with or deem to be transphobic, homophobic, sexist, disablist, racist, classist… I could go on?
