It's getting too much to take in at once. A couple of standouts from CNN...

Sources: Trump will ask Congress, not Mexico, to pay for border wall

Trump's spiritual adviser, Paula White, fires back at critics
White, a megachurch pastor and televangelist in Florida, has long been a controversial figure in Christian circles, where many find fault with her promotion of the "prosperity gospel," which teaches that God bestows health and wealth on true believers, particularly those who donate money to ministers.
In 2007, the Senate investigated White and other televangelists who had made millions from their ministry. According to an audit made public by a Senate committee, White's former church, Without Walls International, took in $150 million between 2004-2006.

So, inauguration to the sound of an X Factor finalist and a handful of snake oil salesmen (all these televangelists really are) while the rest of the world blithely shrugs on.

So let me just get this straight. US intelligence officially confirms that a foreign power directly intervened in the presidential election of the USA in order to ensure that the candidate that was clearly an unstable sociopath with narcissistic tendencies and an almost total ignorance of global geo-politics, or indeed any politics, and zero experience, won the election two million votes behind possibly the most qualified and capable presidential candidate ever, and nobody is DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT ???????

Seriously ?

International relations is a lonely discipline as it just sounds like absurd hyperbole to Jo Average until it is too late. But you learn from history how quickly stability can unravel through bad moves, fools and chancers taking charge of nations. Its not trade tariffs that keep me awake at night but some of the worst case scenarios of foreboding are now real possibilities.

What he really means is he'll look the other way as Russia annexes the baltic states

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38542415" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
US President-elect Donald Trump has posted a series of tweets condemning those who oppose good relations with Russia as "'stupid' people, or fools".
Mr Trump vowed to work with Russia "to solve some of the many... pressing problems and issues of the WORLD!"
I wonder how the likes of John Pilger and Glenn Greenwald will react to this. Their whole international outlook is based on opposing America and if Trump starts cosying up to Putin, that's going to require a huge ideological somersault on their parts.

Very depressing glimpse of the future from Nick Cohen

Less easy to explain away is the unprecedented dilemma now facing Britain. Whatever else you can say against Theresa May’s government, neither she nor her senior colleagues or civil servants want to follow Trump, Le Pen and Farage. When the Economist journalist Edward Lucas, who first warned of a new Cold War a decade ago, speaks in Whitehall these days the lecture rooms are packed. Meanwhile, MI6 is falling over itself in an effort to recruit Russian specialists and the Foreign Office, which once saw Russia as a lucrative market for British business, has finally woken up to the danger.

Official Britain may not have yet produced a co-ordinated response. The essential question of how to tackle the City banks and law firms that launder money for the Russian kleptocracy has yet to be faced. But at least it understands Russia’s state-sponsored propaganda, invasions of Ukrainian territory and hack attacks are part of a coherent Kremlin campaign to demoralise and break up the west.

In the past, Britain would have looked to the US for support and leadership. Now, and with the worst timing imaginable, at the very moment when Brexit is tearing up our relationship with Europe, Britain has to wonder if America is still a reliable partner. Downing Street and the Foreign Office must deal with a US president who endorses every violation of US and international law the British government has denounced. Trump has proposed recognising the annexation of Crimea that Britain opposed. Rather than fear Russian cyberwarfare as Britain does, he so revels in it he encouraged Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.
This is why I'm going to focus on the internal machinations of the Labour Party, it's easier to handle.
