Uzbekistan plunged into uncertainty by death of dictator Islam Karimov

Essentially, everyone's favourite central Asian dictator who boils prisoners and those who dissent against him has, inconveniently, gone and kicked the bucket without having the decency to leave a successor. Expect fireworks.

"Why is this news?" I hear you cry. Well it shares a land border with Afghanistan and has been a major US ally in the region, and the Kremlin are also keen to become a bit more "involved" in the area. So that's all fine and dandy then.
