Seems to be based primarily on the large corruption scandals which have plagued Brazil in recent years.

That, and an extraordinary level of crime. I was there four years ago and we were advised not to wear any jewellery, dress down or even have smartphones on display. That said, the bit I stayed in (Barra da Tijuca) seemed no worse than a large town in the UK.

Brazil had a military dictatorship until the 80s. I’m guessing ‘you could go out without locking your doors back then’ and ‘at least you knew where you stood back then.’

I'm literally quite afraid for my friend and I really have nothing of comfort bar the fact he will struggle to get anything through the senate.

Ironically it looks like it was establishment driven, Can't see him lasting long unless he tows the pro business line mind, which fascists struggle with.
