QUICK! Everybody look over there at evil Facebook and the Arch Jew. Don't pay any attention to those shady guys who helped the Tories and potentially swung Brexit.

Blaming Facebook for CA's actions is like blaming paper mills for the Sun being shit.
Thing is I've got fuck all sympathy for Facebook.

That's fair enough, but doesn't exactly help things. The narrative being pushed can only be assisted by antipathy to Facebook, but in this instance their hands are clean.

Some degree of nose-holding is inevitable for all.

Hmm, I wouldn't say that their hands are clean. They gave not one damn about where millions of data sets would end up. As long as the money was rolling in, they effectively turned a blind eye.

The problem is that their entire mantra is growth-growth-growth so it is none too surprising that their APIs were open to abuse.

Facebook have a lot of questions to answer and really need to clean themselves up. That much is for sure. However, the attempt to deflect all the attention onto them, and play on the deep-seated hatred of Facebook which the Right wing tabloids have spent a long time cultivating, is a very clear tactic which everyone should be very wary of. It's being done to try and protect a lot of important people and whitewash the effect they've had on democracy. It was always going to happen but I didn't think it would be quite so quick and brazen.

To paraphrase Clarke, sufficiently advanced negligence is (almost) indistinguishable from malice. FB are definitely guilty of the former.

To repeat what I said earlier why should I have any sympathy for Facebook, they have done fuck all to stop the spread of fake news, conspiracy theories, Anti-Semitism, and far-right propaganda. It's now been exposed is allowing those bastards at Cambridge Analytica to use data to get Donald Trump elected, well frankly I've run out of patience with them.

Because they're being used as a scapegoat for the actual fuckwits who fucked everything over. They might be cunts, but in this case they're not the biggest cunts on the block.
