While I'd not say that for the most part these people are moronic (very few people rise to the top by being that), they all displayed a crashing lack of self-awareness, coupled with levels of self-generalisation ("I think X, therefore everyone does/should") that made me wince.
Katie Price, in one of her 'books', has one of her heroines appear on a Buzzcocks-like panel show, where "all the so-called comedians tried to show her up as thick, but she won the audience over and the joke was really on them", which is quite Alan Partridge-ish in it's 'I had the last laugh' nature.
