Parents' fury over Horrible Histories posters showing executioner holding up a severed head in chilling echo of jihadist murder videos

Concerned parents have also pointed out that the executioner is masked and dressed in black in a similar way to the ISIS masked killer, known as 'Jihadi John.'
Or indeed dressed like an executioner.

So how many furious parents are we talking about?

Neal Foster, director and producer of the show, said he was aware of a couple of complaints and had provided alternative posters to venues.

I'd wager good money that the couple of complaints came from the journo, the journo's wife, and maybe his mum too. Someone's seen this poster and written a narrative to fit, and it's only a hop, skip and a jump to make a few phone calls so it fits. This smells all the more of bullshit because in any other context, Daily Mail Reporter would be whinging about PC Gone Mad and Lefties Banning Things.

TBH, if your kid recognises the guys from the beheading videos, you've got bigger fucking problems than a stage show.

Commentariat seem to be having none of it, pointing out that the executioner is clearly historically valid and that it's no good to shelter kids from the nastier side of history. However, a fair few are taking the opportunity to be smug about our superiority over the likes of ISIS. Fair point, but the comments do seem tinged with a good amount of racism.

Religious terrorist. Went overseas to fight in a religious war, got indoctrinated, learned explosives, came back here and tried to use them. Yorkshire accent too. It's like he was the inspiration for Four Lions.

Yes...but he also ran article after article labelling goths and metallers as perverts and psychopaths, seemingly based entirely on 1970s cliches of Hells Angels. Then came the murder of Sophie Lancaster, shortly after his infamous 'Give us a stick and I'll kill it' article, that quote attributed to a fictitious northern friend of his called Black Mike (because, you know, all northerners are barbarians). Some time later, after Manchester police started to class attacks on subcultures as hate crimes, he was there to take the piss again, simply denying he'd ever said any of the things he'd said.

Ooo, I think I re-tweeted that this morning. The Daily Mail must hate me. Meh.
