Or as RL usually phrases it: Out of touch elites ignoring legitimate concerns of ordinary voters.
Some of us are old enough to remember when Britain was a serious country, a proper democracy, with a sense of proportion. There was a time when the laws and rules by which we were governed were decided upon after sober debate and enacted for the benefit of what we used to call the ‘silent majority’, not the noisy minority.

One thing anyone can notice is that "the silent majority" is fucking neither. It's the nomme de guerre of any overly conservative, reactionary faction who just want things to stay as they are or preferably roll backwards as far as humanly possible. From Richard Nixon to Mary Whitehouse, right up to David Cameron, it's a phrase that should serve as ample warning someone is attempting to pull your pudding.

Wilson and Thatcher both observed that any minister that whines about the sinister influence of civil servants isn’t up to the job. Littlejohn ironically sounds like Tony Benn blaming the Sir Humphreys for quashing his fag packet populist schemes.

Dr Maxey, a supporter of Extinction Rebellion, is standing as a Climate and Ecological Independent candidate in the upcoming EU elections. Of course he is. We probably know what he thinks about Brexit, too. The same as 99 per cent of other self-styled ‘academics’.
I think there is a bit of a clue in his title if his name is Dr.Maxey that would suggest that he has completed a Phd. i think the title 'self-styled' would be better applied to glorified bloggers like Katie Hopkins and rabble rouser Tommy Robinson when they claim to be journalists.

Politicians respond to popular culture events and this is a bad thing. For someone who continually bemoans the "political class", he sure as hell wants them to be aloof from the rest of us.

Oh, and some digs at climate change and laws unduly affecting white blokes, while they should be used for keeping the coons and hairies in line.
