Ruth Davidson, 39, reveals she is pregnant with her first child after having IVF as she tells of her joy at starting the family she was not sure she would be able to have

I haven't looked at the (unmoderated) comments, but I've no doubt they are almost all made by c**ts.

Yep, the Berkeley Hunts are out in force on this one.

Mind you, there's teh odd ray of sunshine.
Deodrant could be labelled as "against laws of nature" but I wouldn't want to be in a society without it......

You do wonder why people like Ruth Davidson and Sayeeda Warsi get involved in an organisation where so many members openly loathe them for what they are,
Career opportunities.

It's the classic battle ground of the Conservative party. Both Davidson and Warsi are fiscally conservative but socially liberal (the "One Nation" type as was in the ascendancy under Cameron) while the likes who have a problem with them are more social conservatives. They do a better job of hiding it than Labour has made of their battle in the last few years but it's always there under the surface.

Someone recently said that the basic difference between conservatives and liberals (or republicans and democrats or whatever) is that of property rights and personal rights.

Conservatism is based on property rights - can you afford it? If so, good for you. If you choose to support others, that's fine. It's your personal choice. But it holds that people shouldn't be forced into any course of action. Conversely socialism contends that everyone deserves a certain level of societical support, and that we have a duty to contribute to that.

Tied in to this is the mailite concept of outward decency. That which says posting dogshit through your black neighbour's letterbox is a no-no, but tut and moan in private and block their planning application. The EDL are knuckle dragging scum, but then so are Scary Black Men, and you can't shut up one without...

Then there's the concepts of neo-conservatism (everything has cash value) and crucially Thatcher's "one of us" definition. Whereby if you're in the club, anything goes.

In short it's complex. Each of the concepts above deserves a thread of its own.

This is probably the one aspect of social media that leaves me bewildered.

Person A posts a harmless, but positive message.
Plenty of people like it, it's the "Je Suis Charlie" thing to do.
A few people just have to be different.

There used to be a memed response in Youtube comments, that went something like:
160 people prefer .....

Where the ... was a literal description of the opposite of the message.
For example "160 people prefer famine".

So it's the first anniversary of the Finsbury Park terror attack.

The Daily Mail have had do moderate the comments and so far have only let 16 through.

You can see why...
Am I the only one getting fed up with all this rampant griefism? ONE man got killed
Oh. I see. One to remember for the next Lee Rigby anniversary?

Am I the only one getting fed up with all this rampant griefism? ONE man got killed - and he was probably dying of a heart attack anyway. There are more people killed on that road through traffic accidents in a year! Grenfell I can understand. But this is too much.

Dozens were not injured. The man that died was not hit by the vehicle. Please get your facts right.

"Common Scum" exudes "Not one of us", and could so easily be extended to anybody here who deliberately or accidentally obstructs part of the great Tory project.

Teachers - The Blob "If you can't do .... (hahahah".
Striking railway staff - soon to get the "how date these scum" treatment.
Let's not forget the derision aimed at the Hillsborough victims by sitting MPs (Some now in the cabinet).
The same lot who wanted Nelson Mandela (Not common but uppity) executed.
And up to date; the sneers by some of their press allies after Grenfell burned - wrong types - don't belong in this nice borough.

These are not nice people, and they'll never let you near their club.
