JK Rowling sues Daily Mail for libel over 'single mother' article
The Daily Mail has taken down a story from its website about the author JK Rowling after she sued the paper for libel.

Excellent. I remember that article, it was very typical of what they constantly do with the hundreds of unfortunates who become targets of Dacre's hatred - misrepresentation of the facts, twisting the way everything was reported to put Rowling in the worst possible light, and in some areas outright lies. There are times I am grateful for the utter stupidity of Mail journos; surely anyone with half a brain would realise that it really isn't a good idea to do that to someone like Rowling who is known not to be afraid of using the courts, and who is pretty untouchable anyway because she just doesn't care what the Mail thinks of her.

Daily Mail pays damages to JK Rowling
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27312080" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The newspaper admitted liability in January, agreeing to apologise and pay damages. However it disputed details of the settlement, which involved Rowling making a court statement about the case.

Last month a High Court judge ruled the author could make the statement, saying there was "no sufficient reason" for the Daily Mail's publishers, Associated Newspapers, to refuse permission to read it.

A date has yet to be set for when Rowling to make the statement in court
Here's the apology. Note size and layout compared to original article (and filler photo)... :roll:
Our September 28, 2013 article "How JK's sob story about her past as a single mother has left the churchgoers who cared for her upset and bewildered" suggested that JK Rowling had made a knowingly false and inexcusable claim in an article for the Gingerbread charity that people at her church had stigmatised her and cruelly taunted her for being a single mother. In fact Ms Rowling recounted only one incident where a visitor to the church stigmatised and taunted her on a particular day. We accept that Ms Rowling's article did not contain any false claims and apologise for any contrary suggestion and have agreed to pay damages to Ms Rowling, which she is donating to charity, and a contribution to her legal costs

There are of course dozens of J K Rowlings in the Mail who don't have her deep pockets to fight back.

And if I had accumulated a large cash pile, like Ms Rowling I can't think of any better luxury to spend it on than expensive ruthless lawyers that will make Dacre's life a misery.

Christmas has come early for Dacre. The Mail can bash both J K Rowling and the BBC in a single article.

I returned the book for a refund when I decided it was a left wing propaganda piece. Now the BBC are putting it on as we run up to a General Election!
