While pointless and possibly just clip-bait I suspect articles such as these have an element of "fuck you, snowflakes. We'll continue to treat women like this and you can't stop us."

IIRC it was coined by the Murrikans - who love verbiage (vide 'friendly fire', 'collateral damage') to describe what happened to a female musician on telly in the US, where something like that occurring NOT on a subscription cable channel is enough to get some sections asking "will no-one think of the children?" and marching on the TV station with pitchforks.

It's also more acceptable to the prudish Mail than 'nip slip', which is just vulgar.
