A very interesting piece by Joe Mulhall (about whom I know nothing) on the nature and purpose of Breitbart.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -consensus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As Hope not Hate’s new report, Breitbart: A rightwing plot to shape Europe’s future shows, while ostensibly a rightwing news outlet like any other, Breitbart is in reality part of a transatlantic political movement with a common worldview and coordinated objectives. It doesn’t just report on events: it seeks to make them and (mis-)shape them.
It fits comfortably within a contemporary movement of people, political parties and philosophical currents that seemingly aim to undermine the current liberal democratic progressive consensus and the societal norms that are derived from it.

Joe Mulhall is a senior researcher at Hope not Hate, not a journalist. He is on the board of the Holocaust Memorial Trust.

Breitbart are losing advertisers and fast.

Since the 2016 presidential election, more than 1,400 companies — and counting — have yanked their advertising from the right-wing website Breitbart News, where President Donald Trump’s chief strategist, Steve Bannon, was formerly the editor-in-chief.

The ad removals are the result of consumer backlash spearheaded by the Sleeping Giants, an anonymous collective of progressive activists who organize their protests on social media. The group has been urging people to blitz corporations with wake-up calls about the message the corporations are sending when they advertise on Breitbart, which is known for incendiary content that is frequently unsourced, false, and/or deliberately distorted.

The Sleeping Giants claims to be “an organization dedicated to stopping racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic and anti-Semitic news sites by stopping their ad dollars.” And its campaign has been working: The movement recently made headlines after the global ad network Omnicom confirmed the existence of an internal memo advising staff to pull ads from Breitbart on its clients’ behalf.

It's good to hear, but it doesn't really matter.
There's always another sociopathic Billionaire ready to bridge the funding gap.

Since the Tea Party launch in the USA the aforementioned Billionaires are developing a structure and program.

In a sense the Bannons and Yiannopolis' of the world are utterly replaceable cannon fodder.
They're there because they're useful and utterly amoral.
If one of them gets a proberbial fragging (as with Milo's recent venture into Paedo territory), they'll have a quick "thoughts and prayers" and wheel out the next identikit mercenary.

The only value that the individuals of teh cannon fodder accumulates is to become a known name.
That's an in to getting more exposure on mainstream programs.

Trump has a thought
Tells Brannon who puts the thought in Breitbart
Trumps says that's what I was thinking
Tweets that Obama tapped his phone.

Not just the 'liberal media' but anyone who has a relationship with objective truth is forced to stand their ground. God help us if we give way any further.

I wonder where he'll end up. This could be worse than him being relatively sidelined at Breitbart. And how will Farage figure in his plans?

http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/research/ ... rt-report/
Bannon launched Breitbart London to help UKIP ahead of the 2015 General Election. Breitbart’s key funder Robert Mercer supplied Farage’s anti-EU campaign, Leave.EU, with the data tools that helped secure the Brexit vote and the UK’s departure from the European Union.

In turn, Farage’s Brexit success provided Bannon, and his political master Donald Trump, with the inspirational story of the underdog defying the political establishment.

This report shows that Breitbart is not a news website or a media outlet in any ordinary sense and its staff are not mainstream journalists. Breitbart is a political project, with a specific political agenda, staffed by willing propagandists.
Breitbart intends to expand its operations into more countries in the hope of assisting more far right leaders gain power and laying the ground for what they consider is an inevitable conflict with Islam.

And in Britain, this operation will be at the heart of a new political venture, likely to be launched in a matter of months, to create a new far right party and run by multi-millionaire Arron Banks and Nigel Farage.
...this new party will sweep aside UKIP and hope to capitalise on the uncertainty and compromise that will undoubtedly accompany Brexit.

While Banks and Farage will lead this new party, it will be Breitbart that provides the engine power.
Sundry far-right groups and parties.
