Charitable advertising. That is, charities advertising on the TeeVee (presumably) to try and encourage more donations.

The British Heart Foundation has one being played intensively right now, in which the ghost of a bridesmaid at her sister's wedding floats about apologising for spoiling the wedding by dropping dead, even as her earthly remains lie on the floor with a paramedic presumably having failed to keep her alive, and her sister the bride looks bereft. A real bummer.

Ghosties featured in their previous ad too, with a ghostly dad frightening the crap out of his son by turning up in his school classroom to tell him that he's not going to make it home for tea ever again, just before the headmaster drags the kid into his office to tell him his old man's kicked the bucket.

I'm unconvinced about the effectiveness of these ads. Maybe because I already support and donate to the BHF, but I think also because they're too bloody shocking and scary.

Hope I'm wrong, mind, and the cash is rolling in.

All this time I've just lazily assumed that webuyanycar.com was a business that buys any car. No! Judging by its latest advert it is actually one of those dictatorships where they have to have pictures and statues of the supreme leader everywhere (in this case they are under the iron fist of Philip Schofield). I kind of want the next advert to depict a member of staff pulling down the statue with a chain and hitting it with a shoe.

You know that TV ad for the Nationwide Building Society with the two lasses sitting by the keyboard and singing a fucking annoying little song ?

I have it in mind that it's trying deliberately to be as irritating and annoying as possible. Well, it's fucking working for me.

Am I right, though? If so, what's the thinking behind a purposefully annoying ad? I thought it went against advertising's first principles.

Ah, you mean Flo and the other one. I've become disappointed in the direction they've gone with their music. I liked their earlier stuff, about being sisters. But the one about being a fan of a boyband? Gone a bit stale now.

Flo and Joan have received death threats. FFS what is wrong with people. From the story:
Social media has provided a great instant barometer of reaction – good and bad. The huge amount of likes and shares have been great. But then there are others who have chosen to post the most vile, abusive and misogynistic comments about the duo,’ said Sara Bennison, Nationwide’s Chief Marketing Officer. ‘It is not just our Flo & Joan adverts that generate these comments, it is also our adverts that feature people of different colours, backgrounds and perceived sexuality, which attract the most criticism. That’s why it is important to call out those persistent offenders who put out vile comments on a regular basis and who should really know better.

I hope Nationwide come out with an advert to really troll these idiots.

And watching a pervy wierdo sucking the arse out of some other guy's freshly removed trousers really, really made me want to go out and buy a packet of Doritos. It hasn't put me off cheese-flavoured snacks for life at all, no-siree.
