The Mirror seems to have misread its' public. 54% want the monarchy abolished. Of course, I could have text-alerted my pinko twitter chums...but I don't do twitter.

The thing is you can promise whatever you like if you don't expect to ever gain power (See Lib Dems) I'm not saying that the Greens in some places are to the left of Labour and is what Labour should be doing but I had a read of some of the policy and it's quite well batshit. Again not everything of Labour's is perfect the march to austerity really is piss poor but I'd take that to have an NHS safe and one that is finally linked with social care that will look after my parents as they enter old age and Greens aren't going win the election so who will be the only party that be able to do that?

Exactly and it;s why Caroline Lucas has been a success and the Green Council hasn't basically Lucas has no real responsibility she can grandstand all she wants. By contrast the Greens in Brighton seem to be taking a leaf out of Derek Hatton's book

Any attempted rehash of '80s municipal socialism would be shut down by central government, yes - this is the main lesson Green Party leftists should have deduced from their Brighton experience - but the red-baiting in that piece (from a Labour candidate!) is pretty nauseating. Sure, the Greens are being opportunist with a general election around the corner but why berate their rank-and-file members for finally starting to show some backbone in the face of the Tory onslaught? Is it smart to attack the Greens from the right in a left-leaning city like Brighton? Probably not.

Caught Bennett on Sunday Politics though, pretty poor. Neil hates anyone vaguely green and leftish of course but Bennett should have seen that coming. I don't think Lucas would have withered in quite the same fashion.
