I don't believe in "sins of the father" as a valid excuse to attack anyone, however after making a big play about "it could have been my family" as to why people should trust him on Windrush after he took the job it opens the matter up to question.

Not sure that would meet the criteria for legitimate public interest but I'll buy it anyway. We wouldn't want to see a Tory HS kicked in the gooleys unfairly.

I'm sure that the Mail's attack on Javid's family shows their INVESTIGATIONS UNIT (not upper and lower case Investigations Unit, oh no) are fearless fighters for the truth and totally unconnected with the new HO being a Remainer and any suggestion otherwise is a calumny most foul.

Perhaps we need to give the Mail the benefit of the doubt and say that they're actually quite cool with him being a Remainer? I mean there could be other reasons they despise him.

One for the sub editing thread, particularly apt in an article about immigrants being required to speak English to a better standard -
Mr Javid paid tribute to Labour's shadow home secretary Diane Abbott for breaking barriers as Britain's first black woman politician.

But he launched a viscous attack on her party, lashing Jeremy Corbyn over anti-Semitism.

The home secretary says he "will not hesitate" to prevent the return of a British teenager who ran away to join Islamic State as a schoolgirl.

Sajid Javid issued the warning to Shamima Begum and others who fled the UK to join the terror group in Syria after it was revealed she is heavily pregnant and wants to come back.

Mr Javid said: "We must remember that those who left Britain to join Daesh were full of hate for our country.

"My message is clear - if you have supported terrorist organisations abroad I will not hesitate to prevent your return. https://news.sky.com/story/shamima-begu ... m=referral

The UK home secretary is embarrassing himself with his fantasy laws and powers when you make Donald Trump sound more like a grown-up

"I don't want to turn you over to the mob outside..."

Of all the fucking eras we could have emulated, we chose 1950s Mississippi. Yay for us.

The bit I don't understand about this is:

These fighters and brides committed crimes in Syria.
Is this some kind of patermalistic neo-colonialism, us doing their justice for them.

I've formed the opinion that Syrian crimes should be dealt with by Syrian justice.

The reporting of this moral maze is generally along the lines of criticising the woman for not showing any regret, being unfazed by the sight of heads in a dustbin and not badmouthing ISIS. Fact is, she is in a refugee camp that will include ISIS supporters and she's going to keep her mouth shut.
