Wasn't a Maxwell biography Tom Bower's one hit wonder? A flimsy attempt from the Mail and Bower to make Corbyn a far more exciting and influential character than he is
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... chaos.html

Bower interviewed Corbyn's first wife but didn't get her to admit Jez was a lousy shag. But an experienced hack can write between the lines https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... natic.html

The Bower book on football is good, though that's like shooting fish in a barrel.

But yeah, it doesn't at all work to make Jez out to be some sort of evil genius. Elected to Haringey Council, then takes 9 more years to get selected as a PPC. Then another 32 years to progress.

If anything, it made me wish the original Jeremy Corbyn who valued people from everywhere and who wanted to help the poor was still around, as opposed to the free movement hating authoritarian pushing through a Tory dream policy we have now.
This. I remember cheering the first black female MP in the 80s taking up the part of the bench that Enoch Powell used to occupy. Now Diane delivers speeches in parliament on free movement identical to Farage. I wouldn't be riled on a gut level about Labour resurrecting a moribund internal debate about national economic protectionism. But hiding behind and collaborating with the vile UKIP/Tory anti-immigrant narrative to achieve it is the lowest point of the King of Lows' leadership.

His books are all fish in a barrel stuff. Maxwell, money in football, Conrad Black, Mohammed Fayed, Tony Blair. Pick a villain and find a few stories to paint them even blacker.

Yeah.

The Branson one seemed a bit harsh to me. I mean, sure, Branson used to launch lots of stuff you never heard about again but he's no fool. The trains get stick from people who think he keeps all the money (the Treasury get a big chunk back from the franchise fees) and think every delay is the train co's fault. The bloke he recruited to run VIrgin Trains (Chris Green) would have likely been chair of British Rail.

Lib Dems up to 10% now, they were on about 4% not that long ago. Must be those FBPE Centrist Melts being all disloyal again.

Leavers giving up on being better off after Brexit. Down from 39% to 26% in 2 months. More now think they'll be worse off (though only slightly).

https://mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2019/0 ... ision.html

There'll be a fair few "cultural" Brexiters for whom that won't matter all that much, but how many of them vote Labour? Why is the party so terrified of them?
