Am I missing something here? There are procedures, rightly depoliticized, whereby informed people take decisions about what drugs are worth buying for the NHS. So here's Jez, apparently wanting a particular drug to be made available by "Boris Johnson".

I make no comment on whether this drug is good value. But as I understand it, it's not available in Wales. Corbyn supporter, Mark Drakeford, hasn't been asked to make it available as far as I know.

Perspective: orkambi is 100 grand a patient at the price the pharma co. want (based on what they get in the crazy US system), and only works for 40% of them.

Funnily enough, Corbyn doesn’t mention that for every 10 patients it would be pissing over half a million up the wall in ineffective drugs.

Cheers. So NICE, the UK government and the Welsh Government are right, we think.

How can the SNP justify funding it?
This is where it gets tricky - it might be more viable for Scotland because of a much smaller population, and hence a much smaller proportion of the subgroup of people with CF who’d even be a candidate for treatment. In that light, it could be ‘affordable’, plus they assess what drugs to fund in a different way.

For the England/Wales numbers, the fact there’s clearly no bulk discount being offered to make it a more feasible buy means it doesn’t meet rhe threshold where it can be recommended. It might not even take a big price shift to do so, but Corbyn interfering is stupid because if he does it once, what happens with the next super-niche and incredibly expensive cancer drug? And the next? And the next?

Skimming that, it looks like an improvement with general drug approval policy. The thing I don't get is why there's a special cancer drugs fund at all.
Basically, because cancer gets so much funding and is such high profile it has a ton more specialist drugs developed.

Epilogue: man who has no real idea how system works and has no actual involvement makes no difference to positive outcome of long, complex process, will probably claim credit anyway because he made some noises.
