I had a Raleigh Grifter. It was surprisingly like Corbynism in that I was sold it on the basis it was a significant improvement on my racer and a different type of bike. However it turned out to be made of pig iron so was heavy, slow and a huge effort to move, had dreadful gears that often just didn't do anything at all, and in the end rusted so badly that it fell apart.

My granddad (the Communist one) thought the EU was generally a Good Thing. "Workers of the world unite" and all that. The workers of so many different countries having the same regulations and protections across the board was a big step in the right direction in his opinion.

He would have had no time for Allotment Jesus. While he would have been delighted to re-Nationalise everything under the sun, that one issue - the EU - would have killed any regard for Corbyn, and put my CPGB* granddad firmly in the Blairite red-Tory centrist melt camp as far as Momentalists were concerned.


*While a card-carrying communist he was a life-long Labour voter. He would have no truck with the SWP and it's variants. He believed it was only through the efforts of the Labour Party that a socialist Utopia could be achieved.

I have a manager who constantly rearranges and rewrites procedures for a certain ongoing task rather than ever actually dealing with the real problem - that the process itself is fundamentally flawed and needs binning and replacing with something entirely different. And she does this because in doing so she can make a big fuss about having a 'new, better' system in place that will work for everyone and solve all the problems, and kick the can down the road again only to have another relaunch in a few months. But underneath it is the same old shitty process that doesn't work properly.

I think Jez himself had problems with it, never mind anyone else. Humanitarian support for immigrants on the one hand and suspicion of freedom of movement. The humanitarianism did win out, in fairness to him, and he mostly avoided the sort of nonsense Labour had gone in for in the past.
