How wonderful to hear the words of that staunch socialist Woody Guthrie sung at this inauguration.
I was hoping for Woody's extra verse:
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

Pete Seeger sang This Land with the omitted verse at Obama’s inauguration. He was once banned from US TV for being a Commie.

Never fails to raise a smile hearing Souza’s the Liberty Bell played at Presidential inaugurations. It has more traditional connotations in a US context
In the same way that a sign of maturity is hearing the William Tell overture without thinking “Hi Ho Silver” the Liberty Bell does have certain associations for Brits of a certain age

While I;m slightly staggered nothing happened, I am also relieved nothing happened for 2 reasons- the obvious one, and the devastating effectit has had on all the QAnon types and true believers. Yesterday was the final deadline, and their champion meekly fucked off in a huff. No insurrection. No marshal law. No secret plan. They were had for 4 years and now they know it and are by turns pissed off about it and despondent, and openly asking if they were conned.

Even a small scuffle or protest could have let them perpetuate the lie. But the absolute and utter collapse of everything, and Trump throwing them under a bus and walking off as soon as he realised he really wasn't going to get an army to overturn the vote for him has broken them. Biden still has a hell of a job to do, but Trump's selfish, mean-spirited narcissism has helped no end by destroying the very base that held him up. He did drain the swamp in the end - the moment he got on Air Force One for the last time and left.

QAnon got exploded yesterday. The Great Awakening failed to happen, Biden was sworn in without Trump swooping heroically back in and taking over, and right before the inauguration, the guy suspected to be Q posted this:

The real Q was apparently the friends they all made along the way.

Having realised that they've been participating in a particularly lethal ARG, a lot of Q supporters're now feeling very stupid.

The ones I worry about're the ones who, like the Proud Boys, now reckon that Trump was too weak to do what he promised, and want to be ultra-nationalist loose cannons.

Most are cosplay windbags but some dangerous individuals among them. I was pleased to hear Biden is going to focus the war on terror on them. If you thought the Feds were out to get you boys and girls they are now. Most of course would never contemplate acts of terror but they're about taste what brown-skinned citizens since 9/11 (even with no political affiliations) have had to put up with.

It used to be that whatever the subject under discussion on the Jeremy Whine show, some genius would call in with the cutting edge observation of "Aaaah, but what if it was a Muslim...?", usually to make some accusation of PCness among the powers that be.

It's something I've been pondering since the 6th. Probably not in the way Whine's callers meant though.

Some stuff on the radio last night.
One of Obama's staffers related that his Homeland Security lead created a branch dedicated to monitor and oppose rightwing domestic security threats.
The orange buffoon abolished it with a few weeks of taking office.
Obama staffer speculated that this will be reinstated with pretty much the same staff and mission, but more resource.
