LBC ‏@LBC 11m11 minutes ago
Natalie Bennett pulls out of LBC phone-in tonight, citing illness.
Apparently Natalie had a mind blank. As many Greens do. Hasn't done Tony Abbot any harm and he didn't even have to leave Australia to become a hapless party leader.

Johnson has an hour every week not answering Ferrari's questions, which unlike this interview he never follows up because he's good old obfuscating Boris.

I know she has a seat to retain, but shouldn't Lucas be doing more to take the heat off Bennett? It's obvious she's going to keep getting slaughtered until she at least gets a competent team around her - Lucas on the other hand is a pretty solid media performer. I don't know why Lucas stepped down in the first place but today there must be a lot of Greens wishing she hadn't.

I think Lucas doesn't get grilled on their own policies particularly closely.

I don't know if Bennett has the authority to go through conference-voted policies and pull out ones that cost too much.

I've thought their policies even on their strongest subject, energy, look like they're held together by cliches- green jobs, oil lobby, yikes nuclear, zero growth.

What’s missing from this party’s campaign launch? The GREEN

I've not been able to listen all the way through to Ms Bennett's LBC performance.

Poorly briefed and out of her depth, she certainly is, but she doesn't strike me in any way as a divisive or malevolent figure. Unlike Farage or Pickles whose political death I would have sampled, looped up and be splattering across Soundcloud by now.

I had to cut it after about 1:40. I just felt really sorry for her and I genuinely hope that she can find a role where she can't do herself any more harm.

Worth noting as well that Green Party membership was much smaller that it appears to be now when Bennett was first elected. Post-election leadership contest is surely nailed on.

Still, could be worse - they could have elected Pippa Bartolotti...

The ability to think on your feet in a tight corner is what differentiates a front line politician from the rest of us political anoraks. But yes I like Natalie Bennett on a personal level and I didn't feel the schadenfreude that I did with Cameron flailing with Pink News when asked why his party is in coalition with homophobic nutjobs in the EP. You never know it might be the making of her, its certainly put her on the map. There's always the Boris option when you frequently can't answer a question; bluster out some noises, make an unfunny joke and say something in Latin. Just think what a 'character' Natalie could become.

Meanwhile Caroline Lucas had a good evening on Newsnight debating MP's pay with the odious Adam Afriyie. She was bemused as the rest of us as to why you can't live on £67K basic salary while Afriyie attempted to tug our heartstrings at all the Tories who had to take a pay cut to enter parliament. Afriyie as we know is a hard right populist who is touch with ordinary people.

I know that we're straying into conspiracy theory territory here, but there is speculation that she's an MI6 plant.
